View Sharing on StumbleUpon
StumbleUpon’s mission is to help you discover the best content on the web, by showing you sites tailored to your interests whenever you press the Stumble! button. Among all the fun things you can do on StumbleUpon, sharing sites with your friends is perhaps one of the greatest assets of having our toolbar handy on your browser. This week’s tutorial explains how sharing on StumbleUpon works – and gives you all the tips you need to start sharing:

How to start sharing sites with other Stumblers
When you set up your StumbleUpon account we make it easy to find friends you know in real life, who are also on StumbleUpon. When you import your contacts from your email address book, we will show you which of your friends already have accounts on StumbleUpon, so you can easily subscribe to them and start sharing sites with them. Their usernames will then be added to the Share panel on your toolbar.
To find your friends on StumbleUpon go to Stumblers > Find Friends.
You may also share sites with people you just met on StumbleUpon. When you visit someone’s profile and you want to enable site sharing, subscribe to the user and then check the box for “accept shares to my toolbar”. Sharing will be enabled only when the user reciprocates the sharing permission (i.e. the user also subscribes to you and checks his/her “accept shares to my toolbar” box.)
Tip: Sharing sites with other users implies trust, personal connection and mutual interests. Users will not accept to share sites with you if they don’t get to know you first, or if you don’t share similar interests. Make sure you build a personal connection with them first, before you share.
Sharing sites from the toolbar
When you find a site you want to share with your friends, click on the Share button on your toolbar, select the person you want to share with, enter a (optional) message and send. The user you shared with will get a notification on his toolbar to let him know there is a share waiting in his queue. He will see the site next time he clicks on the Stumble! button.
If you don’t have an installed toolbar and are using SU’s web-based toolbar, the Share button will open the Group Share panel, where you can send a site to multiple friends at once.
Tip: When group-sharing, make sure the people you selected are actually interested in the content you are sending them. Use group-sharing sporadically – members who feel you are sharing too much may remove you from their share list, block you or even worse: report you for spam.
Sharing sites from the website
Sometimes, you want to share a site that you didn’t stumble. Maybe you added it to your Favorites a while ago, you found it on your Discover page or on another Stumbler’s profile. There are multiple locations on our website where you can access sharing:
Every site displayed in your Favorites, on the Recent Activity page (see image above) or on another user profile has a Share link, which becomes visible when you roll your mouse over the site title. Review pages (see image below) also have a Share button in the upper right corner of the page.
Sharing sites on Twitter and Facebook
We make it easy to share sites with your friends on Facebook and Twitter. From the toolbar, click on Share and select Twitter/Facebook. If this is your first time sharing outside of StumbleUpon, you will first be redirected to Su.pr, where you have to authorize posting to your Twitter and Facebook profiles.
From the website, Sharing to Twitter/Facebook is possible from the review panel, either when you write a review for the first time or when you edit an existing review. Underneath the review field you will see checkboxes for sharing to Twitter and Facebook (as shown in image above).
Sharing sites with someone who is not on StumbleUpon
There are also times when you’d like to send a site to a personal friend, co-worker or family member who is not on StumbleUpon. To do that, click on Share on your installed toolbar, scroll down to New Email Address and enter that person’s email. You can build a small directory of email addresses on your toolbar, so you can later share with these people again by going to Share > All Emails.
